Why does my dog keep toileting in the house?
It can be very frustrating for you living with a dog who is not house trained and it takes time and patience for your dog to understand not to toilet in the house; and some dogs seem to get there much more easily than others.
There can be many reasons why your dog may toilet in the house, maybe they have never been properly house trained or perhaps they have suddenly started having accidents in the house after previously being trained.
In the case of a sudden apparent loss of training, the first thing is to have your dog checked by a vet as a number of heath conditions can cause house soiling; and it is important to make sure that you never punish your dog for toileting in the house even if your vet cannot find a medical reason for the problem.
There are a number of good resources available online such as the American Kennel Club which provides an excellent guide for toilet training. However, all dogs are individuals and if you’re still unsure or having difficulties then please do reach out. As a dog training and behaviour professional I will be able to guide you through the correct steps to ensure your dog understands the best place to toilet is outside.
